Brazilian Jiu Jitsu promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves or another against a bigger, stronger, heavier assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint locks and chokeholds if necessary to defeat the opponent.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training can be used for sport grappling tournaments and in self-defense situations.

It is an ideal system for controlling an aggressor when scalable degrees of force are required. This may be someone who needs to be restrained for their own, or other people’s safety, and simply responding with 100% destructive force is not a viable or justified option.
